Norway

Jamie Sutton arrived in Germany on Wednesday last week, and straight away he became a participant in our jet-lag suppression regime, with Sam and I holding his eyelids open until it was normal time to go to sleep and forcing him to eat his food at local time, despite his gag reflexes. After a day and a half of the program, Jamie was as good as new, and we prepared for our pilgrimage to Norway.
With fears that we may spend all the money left in our bank accounts on our first car fuel up in Norway, we decided to stock up in Germany with as much food and cheap wine as we could fit into the car. At least now we were sure we could last at least a week anyways.

Ready to go. Spot the dude who's never driven 27 hours straight in a car before.

Thankfully we have now made it to Norway, but I don’t recommend driving non-stop for 27 hours to anyone, and Jamie and I didn’t even drive. Sam and Kat were machines! We drove from the bottom of Germany up to the top, up through Denmark, up through Sweden and then finally up into Norway. Needless to say we we're absolutely broken by the end of it.

We have kindly been put up in a sweet house with an amazing view thanks to Mikey and Margis. Margis is the organiser of the Extremsportveko, the event we’ll be competing in later this week. Check it out at… http://www.ekstremsportveko.com/

The view from Margis and Mikey's house in Voss.

We’ve been getting back into the kayaking way of life slowly and cautiously since our close friend Simon Davidson died kayaking in Canada last week, but we’re starting to feel a bit better on the water each day now.

There have been 2 days without rain in the first week we’ve been here, a little depressing I know, it’s forecast to carry on like this for ages. But with the rain all the creeks have had healthy flows and we’ve managed to get in some quality runs down the Myrkdal, Urdland and Raundelselva rivers.
A film crew came with us out to Urdland creek yesterday, and filmed and photo’d double drop. Hopefully they’ll give us access to the photo’s but for now there’s a couple up on the veko website gallery (I think the first four photos are Urdland) -

Here’s a few more photo’s of our very wet first week in Voss. Update on the kayak racing coming soon...
